Why Confirmation?
As you share in the confirmation process you will have an opportunity to learn about the Christian faith and to know what it means to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ. All of us who share in leading the confirmation process are eager to work with you in this exciting and formative time in your lives. As you will see, the confirmation process involves:
Confirmation is a ministry of the church when persons are instructed in the essentials of the Christian faith and are prepared for a life of discipleship. The purpose of the confirmation process is to lead persons to confess Jesus Christ as Lord and to make a commitment to walk as his disciples. Who can participate? Confirmation is appropriate for anyone who has completed 7th grade, but for the sake of streamlining our curriculum and instruction, is restricted to rising seniors in high school and below (down rising 8th graders). If you are above this age and interested in joining a church for the first time, St. John's hosts regular new member classes that are better suited to an adult learning style. What do I need to bring? All materials needed will be provided by the church, including the book "My Confirmation: A Guide for Confirmation Instruction." St. John's will cover half of the book expense for each confirmand, leaving only $8 per book to be paid by the families. Additionally Students may be asked to bring money on occasion for meals or other expenses off-site (no more than twice). When & Where? Confirmation Classes will be held at St. John's Church from 4-6pm on Sunday afternoons for the 10 weeks beginning January 10th and ending on March 20th. Those who, having completed all requirements, wish to become members of St. John's Church will join the church either by baptism and/or profession of faith during worship on Easter Sunday, March 27th. |
